So, remember how I was going to write one of these things after each time I went to the doctor? Yeah, I totally failed at that. I haven't written one in nearly 12 weeks, and a lot has changed since then, for sure. The most miraculous thing is just how big everything is. The baby is three whole pounds now, and i feel like the belly is getting huge, among other things. I've gained 21 pounds so far, which I'm told is really normal, but still feels like a lot. So far the only really annoying symptoms I'm dealing with are heartburn and achiness all over, as well as some slight swelling.
I've read in a few places that pre-natal ultrasounds are potentially harmful to babies, so we haven't had another one of those. After the 20 week scan, our doctor only requires another one at 35 weeks as long as everything else seems to be going well, so we will have one then and will definitely share the photos. I'm excited to see her again, but the 3D ultrasounds just weirded us out a little, I don't think either of us are bothered about having to wait to see her beautiful self in the flesh. It just seems better that way.
We're slowly but steadily baby-proofing the house. The yellow submarine nursery is nearly finished and came out better than I ever could have conceptualized, and we actually did most of it ourselves, if you can believe it. J has this stubborn streak where he doesn't want to hire anyone to do things professionally, so we painted the walls (except the murals, neither of us are that artistic) and he built the shelves and put together all the furniture. We didn't do the carpet though, thankfully.
We start our childbirth classes on Tuesday and I'm pretty excited about them. There were so many different options but we went with a lamaze method that focuses on natural childbirth. I looked into home and water birth stuff, but in the end we decided to go with Cedars Sinai, they have really nice birth suites with three rooms, one of which has a big bath tub so i can get in to help manage some of the pain of contractions. Also, there's a private waiting room just off the delivery room for all you folks who will be there! We booked it clear from Halloween to November 13th, so she better come within that two week time frame OR ELSE. My mother-in-not-law Audrey is coming to stay with us starting in October, so, hopefully she will be able to help me determine when it's actually time.
Also, last but not least we decided on October 16th for the baby shower. It will be a a co-educational affair and invitations will be forthcoming, hope to see you there!
