DANNY PALMER djp: This dynamic duo met in high school when Phoebe was a sophomore and Danny a junior. She was good friends with Danny's twin brother, Marc, and they met through him. At first Phoebe harbored a crush on the taller, more poised, and more athletic Palmer twin. They even went on a couple dates and held hands. Danny was her first kiss and she was one of the first people he told that he was gay. Despite the end of their romantic relationship, Phoebe and Danny remained best friends, forming a band together with his brother and another of their high school friends named Ugly Duckling. UD received national recognition after heavy MTV airplay of their single (Here) In Your Arms. Nowadays Ugly Duckling has broken up and even though Phoebe and Danny live in different states and don't get to see one another as much as they would like, they are still like family.
MARC PALMER muke/mpalmer: Marc Palmer was the first kid that Phoebe met at South Pasadena high school when her family relocated there, they sat next to one another in a third period choir class and he was the only kid who didn't turn his nose up at her because she bought her clothes at Wal-mart. Nerdy and lovable Marc shared Phoebe's passion for music, Jesus (at the time), and all things nerdy (Risk, D&D, sci-fi movies) and the two quickly hit it off. Not long after they met Marc invited Phoebe to play the drums in a new after school band he was starting with his twin named Ugly Duckling. Phoebe agreed and the rest, as they say, was history. Phoebe and Marc had a very special bond that was a mixture of best friend and big brother. He was one of the kindest, most accepting, and compassionate people she's ever known and she was honored to tour the country at his side in Ugly Duckling for 5 years that they were a band. Marc passed away from injuries sustained during a car accident in September of 2008. He was only 23 years old. The news hit Phoebe hard and there's not a day that goes by that she doesn't think about him and miss his smiling face.
CAITLIN DONAHUE NPC: Caitlin, or Cate as she is better known, is Phoebe's older sister. Only four years her senior, Cate and Phoebe had a very close sisterly relationship when they were little but as they grew they became more and more distant, fighting and sibling rivary flare-ups became common place. Cate was always the apple of their mother's eye, pretty and popular she was a cheerleader in high school (though she did not do as well academically as Phoebe) and married the captain of the basketball team, Rob Donahue, right out of high school. The couple has three daughters, Rebecca, Brittany and Emily, all under age four and currently reside in San Luis Obispo, CA. Phoebe would love nothing more to be close with them since they're the only family she has left, but her sister's judgemental personality and disapproval of Phoebe's life and beliefs continues to make the relationship impossible.
NANCY HOLLINGSWORTH NPC: Nancy was Phoebe's judgemental, controlling, and sometimes down right cruel mother. Growing up Phoebe and her mother were never close. Nancy was especially hard on her youngest daughter because she took after her father's side of the family in both demeanor and appearance. Her mother was always pushing her to be thinner and more girly, a fact which probably has attributed to the bulimia that Phoebe has battled several times in her life. Nancy was a home economics teacher at the high school that Phoebe attended and believed very strongly in traditional values, as she was a very relgious person. Nancy never once gave Phoebe a word of encouragement growing up, always choosing to pick apart her accomplishments until they were virtually meaningless. All the same, Nancy did love her daughter in her own way and could sometimes, very rarely, be capable of showing Phoebe empathy. Nancy passed away from complications during routine surgery to remove a cancerous mass from her breast in November of 2007.
JOSEPH HOLLINGSWORTH - NPC: Joe was Phoebe's father, a Coporal in the U.S. Air Force, his job kept their family from bouncing around from military base to military base for a large part of Phoebe's life. Despite the strain his job caused Joe was a family man through and through. Phoebe remembers him as her hero, a wonderful father and role model who always has an encouraging word, and ear to listen to her woes, and a hug to soothe away all her fears. Joe was the person who originally got Phoebe into playing the drums, he had played in bands on the base her whole life and in her desire to immulate him she was eager to learn. Joe have Phoebe drum lessons nightly until she knew how to play just as well as he could. To this day drumming is one of her favorite things to do because in its own way it feels like a tribute to her father. Joe died in a helicopter accident in Iraq in 2003. Phoebe was 16 years old and absolutely devastated. To this day it is without the most difficult thing she has ever gone through. In the aftermath of his death, she began to question God and ultimately lost her faith. She also began to rebel against her mother with tattoos, piercings, and drug experimentation in later years. She has since cleaned up her act and hopes she has grown into a woman her father would be proud of.
MANFRIEND
JAMES MILTON milton: Thirteen years Phoebe's senior, James and Phoe became the unlikliest of friends during the early winter months of 2008. He was her confidante, made her feel valued and protected, and she was something of a muse for him, waking up a musical sleeping giant that allowed him to finally write songs he liked again after a long drought. James was a fierce opponent of her relationship with Bailey, convinced that the other man did not treat Phoebe right, and Phoebe was enamored by him, his intelligence, his maturity, and the way that he always saw her as a victim in she and Bailey's epic battles. After Phoebe left Bailey, she went to stay with James in hopes of getting over her former boyfriend, but like usual with Phoebe, it wasn't long before she got lonely. She'd always felt a connection with James and tried to build a relationship on it before she was ready. Ultimately both Phoebe and James realized they had been romanticizing the other's flaws and split for good, after only 4 months together, in August of 2008. However, over the next 9 months, neither Phoebe nor James forgot about the intense connection they shared, or the feelings they had for one another. In March 2009 while Phoebe was performing a string of residency shows, she invited James to a show to play with her. During his trip to Portland they were finally able to put the past behind them and move forward. They have been together officially since late March and living together in the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles since June 2009.
THE EXES
ALEX DOHRETY dohrety: Alex and Phoebe met at the home of a mutual friend in Pasadena when she was 17 and he was 21, the immediately hit it off despite their age difference and the strong opposition of Phoebe's mother. Regardless of the obstacles they began dating and remained together for 2 years. Alex was Phoebe's first love and a lot of the songs on her first solo album are about their relationship. He lives in LA and she still sees him while she's in town, they had an amiable break up and remain good friends.
MAX genovino: Although it was never explicitly said, Max played a large factor in the break up of Alex and Phoebe. He was the frontman for a famous band that Ugly Duckling played a festival show with. Phoebe was immediately attracted to his bad boy persona, yet the soft, attentive person he was when he was around her. She didn't even care that he had a severe drug problem, doing her best to deny it and even getting caught up in drugs herself along the way. Of course It didn't help her case that she found him to be completely gorgeous and charming. After their first meeting Phoebe found herself going out of her way to see Max, and for about the last 6 months of her relationship with Alex, she was harboring a severe crush, but he seemed oblivious. Phoebe spent almost 2 years pining for Max until he finally woke up and smelled the roses. They got together for a brief but intense summer in 2007, yet ultimately split because his problem with drugs was more than she felt she could handle.
BAILEY RIAIN riain: Over the course of the summer of 2007 Bailey and Phoebe, who had met before through mutual friends several times, began to grow close. After reconnecting at an LA concert, the two exchanged numbers and began talking for hours everynight. They were both seeing other people and the time and going through a lot, he always knew how to make her laugh and take her mind off the things bothering her. It wasn't long before both parties began to develop stronger feelings and before she knew he'd left his girlfriend and promised her the world, she was 7 years his junior, but still agreed to take it eagerly. Over the course of the seven months that they were together they experienced enough hardship for a lifetime. Her mother died, he was diagnosed with cancer, and she had a miscarriage due to a car accident for which she was at fault. Despite everything the couple insisted that they were meant for one another and got engaged on Valentine's Day of 2008. Only a month and half later vicious words said during an arguement broke them up for good.
THE FRIENDS
DEAN EMERTON - emerton Dean and Phoebe met in the spring of 2007 when both were working together on the re-election campagin of his father, a democratic senator from New York. Phoebs has been really into politics ever since her father was killed in a helicopter accident in Iraq when she was 16, and she was happy to find a friend who was as interested in the politcal machine as she is. Dean and Phoebe aren't as close as they were during the few months that she was living in NYC, but they still will grab a drink or coffee and talk the bigger picture whenever she's in town.
GARBO KHIELL - khiell Garbo and Phoebe met after Phoebe attended a concert of Garbo's former band Zenit. A huge fan of Garbo's style, Phoe was eager to meet her backstage and was even more pleasantly surprised to find out what a cool chick she was. Phoebe definitely looks up to Garbo and has a lot of admiration for her for being true to herself and having a great personality. They don't get the chance to hang out as often as Phoe would like, but she's hoping that will change in the near future.
LUCY DAVIS - ldavis Lucy and Phoebe met through Lucy's boyfriend Kyle whom Phoebe had toured with when both of their bands were playing The Warped Tour one summer. There's not many females on the warped tour and the cool ones have to stick together, thus Phoebe and Lucy forged a friendship while Lucy was around visiting. Phoebe kept in touch with both Lucy and Kyle after the tour ended and they all remain casual friends.
JAYDA BARCLAY - jayda In the early winter of 2007 Ugly Duckling opened up for Jayda Barclay's band Barclay on a tour throughout canada. Jayda and Phoebe, being basically the only girls on the tour, bonded easily. The pair have a lot in common, they are both laid back and like to have fun and as a result they grew closer and closer. A mutual hate for Aubrey Laine drew them together for a time, but, now that they're both over that their friendships is stronger than ever. Jayda spent almost the entire summer of 2009 staying with Phoebe in LA while she worked on an album and did voice work on a film and Phoebe considers Jayda to be her best girlfriend.
BRADY COLLINS - bradycollins Phoebe and Brady met through their mutual friend James, whom Phoebe later dated, during the spring of 2007. She was draw to his laidback and charming nature, as well as his sense of humor. The two bonded over an enjoyment of liberal politics and good music. Living on separate coasts they don't see a lot of one another, but Phoebe loves their talks and knows she can always come to him for advice on anything, almost like the big brother she never had.
CHLOE PORTER - chloeporter Phoebe met Chloe through her best friend Danny, Chloe was a fan of Ugly Duckling and Danny specifically before she even shared a bill with them on The Warped Tour. They grew close over the course of 2009 and Phoebe thinks of Chloe as almost a little sister, she loves her to death and hates to see her dissed in any way.
JASON BELLAMY - jasonbellamy Jason and Phoebe met through Phoebe's friend Chloe and quickly bonded over their love of all things feminist (and socialist). Jason is one of the few people Phoebe can listen to for hours without getting bored, she thinks he's a super smart guy and is really excited to have someone to hang out on campus with (they are both students at UCLA).
ZERA BARNET - zera Zera and Phoebe played several radio shows together and developed a friendship organically. Phoe is a huge fan of her music, and counts her among one of her sweetest, most talented friends.
ADELLA BURNSHAW-EMERTON - adella Phoebe and Adella met through Adella's husband Dean and naturally grew closer over time due to the charity work that Phoebe and Dean mutually participate in. While she was initially skeptical of her reputation, once getting to know her Phoebe came to the decision that Adella was one of the sweetest, smartest gals around, and now really values her friendship.
GREG MIERS - miers Phoebe and Greg had a chance conversation after she'd sent him a note regarding a serious loss in his life and their friendship bloomed organically from their. While they don't agree on hardly anything, they always have interesting conversations and respect one another's opinion, Phoebe thinks very highly of him as a person.
THE OTHERS
AUBREY LAINE - aubreylaine Secretly Phoebe hated Aubrey from the moment the Aussie appeared on her radar. Phoe was convinced that she had a thing for Bailey the entire time they were dating, and when Aubrey and Bailey began seeing each other not long after the two of them split, her disdain for the girl exploded. She was convinced that Aubrey had been waiting in the wings to strike when the iron was hot. It took a long time for Phoebe to get over Bailey, and put aside her jealousy and belief that Aubrey was all wrong for him. When Bailey passed, he told Phoebe some choice words that Aubrey had to say to him and how it had made him feel and after he died, it infuriated Phoebe even more to the point that even seeing Aubrey's face makes her want to gag. It took a long time, but finally Phoebe was able to see that nothing that happened was Aubrey's fault, and the two have finally attempted to bury the hatchet.
LEO KING - lking - Their personalities and beliefs could not be more different, and they just clash on all levels. Leo calls her names and she takes every opportunity to tell him he's an asshole that she gets, but ultimately neither of them affect the other a whole lot.
